Remarks & Notes
BELFORT AUX ALSTHOMMES

This is the first prototype of all TGVs, it was built in Belfort in 1972 by Alsthom - as it was then called, with an "H". And it was also a turbotrain. The project of the first French high speed line was planned as a non-electrified line to be served by such turbotrains. With the 1973 energy crisis, the plans were changed in favor of electrification.

The 2 power cars are preserved. One of them (TDu 001) is a monument in Bisheim, a city where major TGV maintenance and overhaul workshops are located. The other one is this monument standing by the A36 motorway near the city of Belfort. It carries a slogan celebrating the men of Alsthom. The meaning of "Belfort aux Alsthommes" - literally "Belfort to the Alsthom-men" can be somehow translated by: Belfort is the city of the Alsthom men.

The trucks are not the original power trucks. They look more like the unpowered trucks that were carrying the intermediate passenger cars of the train set. And the true color of the original TGV was more red than this orange monument, as can be seen here: http://www.railpictures.net/photo/180151/
