Brand new U30C locomotives have arrived from Erie,PA. and are being taken down to the West Yard for weighing after being serviced with all fuel/water/sand and lubricants and all appliances that the Milwaukee Road and the Brotherhoods have agreed on. This was standard procedure with all brand new locomotives. Back in 1969 I was hostling 3rd shift when the 1-5 spots FP45's showed up just about Midnight just after the new year. We serviced them as we did with all new units and hauled them down to the West Yard for weighing. These weights were very critical as back in those days the engine crews(Engineers/Fireman)rates of pay were based on the weight on drivers of the locomotives under the BLE and BLF&E agreements.
