Remarks & Notes
The last Iowa Pacific train on the former D&H Sanford Lake Branch crosses the Hudson River with 24 empty tank cars pulled out of storage in Tahawus. The last D&H train ran here in November 1989 and the line, owned by NL Industries, was mothballed until Iowa Pacific purchased and reactivated the line in the Summer of 2012. After being strong armed by the governor of NYS to remove storage tank cars from the line, Iowa Pacific pulled out. The train is crossing from the Town of Minerva in Essex County to the Town of Indian Lake in Hamilton County. This is the northern most of 5 active rail bridges over the Hudson River. The line was built from North Creek to Tahawus during World War II in order to haul titanium out of the Adirondack Mountains.
