Another one bites the dust... a number of 1970s era Amtrak station designs have closed in recent years to make way for new modern facilities or restored old stations that have been revitalized. The Bloomington-Normal station is an example where the old Amtrak "cookie-cutter" style station stands vacant, and the new station is in service on the opposite side of the tracks. I went over to peek inside the windows to be reminded of train travel as it was when I was a kid, and the train information board, red carpet lined counter, and large Helvetica font signs brought back a flood of memories from similar stations like Albany and Rochester, NY.
