Nowadays its a rare sight to see two steam locomotives at Leaman Place Junction, let alone one, and all of it is due with great thanks to the Strasburg Rail Road. In this picture SRC #89, a former Canadian National Mogul, has just dropped off 4 freight empties at its interchange with Norfolk Southern. Typically this job is done with former NYC SW8 #8618, but due to mechanical issues #8618 has been down this week for freight duty. It's not very often you have the convenience of saying "Hey the diesel broke down so let's bring out the steam locomotive!" About 5 minutes after dropping its freight empties, SRC #90 arrived with the 3 pm hourly train. During its runaround #90 and #89 provided a unique view under Amtrak's catenary of why the Strasburg Rail Road is such a blessing to have in the rail community.
