Remarks & Notes
WWI Centennial Train

The « Train des Mouettes » tourist railroad chose July 4 to celebrate the First Centennial of WWI with a Centennial Train. The train ran for several days on the Saujon – La Tremblade tourist line near Royan.

For one year, volunteers of the Trains & Traction Association refurbished several American freight cars that had been delivered in kits from US manufacturers in 1917-1918 and assembled in La Rochelle by the American Expeditionary Force. From 1917 on, two million American soldiers arrived in France. 37800 cars were built for their transportation and logistics. The restored cars are participating in several events involving heritage railroad artifacts. The train also had some antiquated 3-axle passenger cars with side doors.

The Centennial Train was hauled by The mainline steam engine 140-C-38 of the CFTLP Association (from Limoges) was in charge of the Centennial Train. Built in 1919 this engine belongs to a sub-series ordered for the French Army to haul heavy artillery trains (ALVF). The first 140C were built in 1913.

The time is gone, the song is over, snapshots and memories remains... Some things we remember, some we see now - and will not forget...
