SP 9177 East, a long manifest that takes up the entire horseshoe and then some, exits Allard as it attacks the grade here at the Tejon Ranch with the assistance of a three-unit helper. In the days when big, loud EMD 645s and GE FDLs ruled Tehachapi, this was one of the prime locations to listen to heavy freights assaulting the grade.
