Steam and the Sierras

It's a long hard climb from the valley floor up to Gold Hill. One could watch a train for nearly an hour as it struggles with the grade. And who could imagine a prettier view than this on a fine winter morning?

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
