Three SD45s and an SD40 have ample power to keep CNW train 483 on its schedule. Just out of Altoona, the train is rolling west through Eau Claire along the Uniroyal tire plant just east of the former CNW station. CNW maintained double track from the east end of Altoona yard to a point near Truax Blvd. and Hwy F on the west side of Eau Claire, often permitting meets between east and west bound freights to/from the Twin Cities and Chicago. this train handled autos, intermodal and priority carload freight and often would meet train 490 here. Note the dwarf timer signal, still in use at this time to protect the crossover between main tracks.
