Mobile bound train, NS 183 steps by 27th Street interlocking and the long closed Sloss Furnace in the background at Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham was once known into the 1970s as the Pittsburgh Of The South, but has long since lost that title, in fact 183 is heading to Mobile where it's empty coil steel cars will be loaded at the port with imported coil rolls. The 27th Street tower closed in the early 2000's and now serves as a storage unit for the Signal Department. Sloss Furnace is now a National Historic Landmark. October 6, 2018
