| Easing through the snow covered yard at Cumbres Pass, a snowplow-less 488 rolls down the main track. The first snows of the season have already fallen with a few days left in the railroad's season. Off to the left side of the locomotive, you can see the blowdown of the boiler occurring, a much needed process in steam railroading to remove sediments and other impurities from the boiler. Failing to remove these from the boiler can result in severe damage or worse to the boiler. |
