| "Skookum"

Former Whitney Company 2-4-4-2 "Skookum" was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in June 1909. It was retired and abandoned deep in the forest following a derailment wreck in 1955. Seen here on a cold October night, the engine crew works tirelessly to fix unexpected driver issues following the locomotive's restoration.
Skookum is a Chinook word that has historical use in the Pacific Northwest. It has a range of meanings, commonly associated with an English translation of "strong" or "monstrous". The word can mean "strong", "greatest", "powerful", "ultimate", or "brave". Something can be skookum, meaning "strong" or "monstrously significant".
