Remarks & Notes

Fountain and the Land Slide. The former BC Rail clings to the side of the cliffs above the mighty Fraser River. The small village is Fountain, part of a Native Indian Reserve along what was once the Caribou Road. The village is named after the turbulent waters of the Fraser River at this point, but the waterfall resembling a fountain below the Highway 99 railroad overpass in the photo could also easily play a part in the name. Just to the left of the head-end power (north) is the area of the 2016 landslide that moved the railroad and highway. The Canadian National has made a decent fix to the problem, however the highway is still plagued with problems. The highway 99 overpass also marks the beginning of the 2%+ portion of the climb to Kelly Lake. The train today has a CN SD70m-2 and a Ex BC Rail C44-9w pulling 52 empties. The cars are mostly heading for industries near Williams Lake. The Centerbeam for wood, the hoppers for wood pellets and the gondolas for copper....
