| Threading the Humboldt River in remote Palisade Canyon eastbound grain empties ride former Western Pacific iron en route to a crew change in Elko, Nevada. Coming in second place to lay rail through the Canyon WP shared the limited space along the Humboldt with the Southern Pacific, pairing their trackage to create a stretch of double track railroad (eastbounds on the WP and westbounds on the SP). Today the trackage through Palisade serves in the same capacity now under the sole ownership of the Union Pacific. |
