Blue hour in McEwen. As the blue hour fades to black, Sumpter Valley's two steam locomotives sit tied down at the McEwen Tank, all prepped and ready for an early morning departure to the west.
The 2018 Sumpter Valley Railroad Fall Photo Train offered a relatively rare opportunity to get a few night photos in the yard. The event does not normally include a night session, but this year, Photographer Pete Lerro happened to be attending as a paid participant, and had brought some hot lights with him. At the conclusion of Saturday's daytime shoot, the railroad agreed to position and leave the two locomotives at the McEwen Tank for the night. Pete deployed his lights around the scene and about 1/3 of the participants opted to stay until after dark to photograph the scene and take part in a portrait session. Although it was chilly this evening, it was definitely worth sticking around.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
