CP Rail's two GP30s 5000-5001 (1st#8200-8201) were wreck replacement units ordered to test the new second generation models being marketed by GMDD. CP was pleased with its two trail units and was ready for more, however, by that time the GP30 was out of production, replaced by the GP35. CP's pair would remain the only two built in Canada.
