Remarks & Notes
These two trains were heading west, side by side, down the Rio Grande's two-track main line in Spanish Fork Canyon. On track #1 was a Utah Ry. loaded coal train; on track #2 was a Rio Grande piggyback train. When they reached the crossovers at Narrows, the train on the left, on track #2, took the crossover instead of continuing straight ahead. It ran directly into the side of the moving westbound coal train on track #1. The collision ripped the sides out of several coal gondolas with the result shown here. Several of the piggyback's cars were also derailed and tipped over. Scanned from a color print.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
