'Loch Ness' finished its career as Amtrak 2087, having been previously numbered 2027. It was built for Northern Pacific Railway by Budd in 1959 as Slumbercoach 328. This class of car featured a 24 single/8 bedroom configuration. Built for steam generator use, head end power was added in April, 1980. The car was retired from Amtrak service in September of 1996, and acquired by Webb Rail in 2017. It is presently numbered 801046 and is stored awaiting restoration. We will share more photos of the car in separate posts.
In this photo, the Loch Ness was still active in Amtrak service, and parked in Hialeah Yard, Miami, FL on the afternoon of April 21, 1995. These cars served the end of their careers on lines east of the Mississippi including the Silver Service routes and the Lake Shore Limited.
