| Two GP38-2's begin their six mile run down the Fields Creek valley with hoppers loaded at the West Carbon Mine. There is a small, three track yard at the mine that allows the road crew to build and run around a train. At the height of coal mining in the valley there were five mines. Today there is one. Coal is no longer loaded into barges on the Kanawha River so the tired looking hoppers that were in captive service on the line have been replaced with CSX and utility hoppers that are suitable for interchange, |
