Remarks & Notes
Union Pacific runs a local south out of Provo, Utah called the Lynndyl Local; symbol LUL57. It traverses the entire Sharp sub all the way south some 80 miles to a junction with the Lynndyl sub at, you got it, Lynndyl, Utah. Sometimes it goes south an additional few miles on the Lynndyl sub and works the huge IPP power plant before returning to Provo. I caught it working its way south for this shot, with SD60M #2506 leading, just after passing the coal loadout at Sharp, Utah, which you can just barely see at the extreme far right of the picture. Sharp is where coal from the SUFCO mine, high up on the Wasatch Plateau east of Salina, is loaded on railcars. SUFCO is the biggest coal mine in Utah. After passing Sharp, the line ducks under Interstate 15 and passes into a short canyon through a hogback and follows the Sevier River west. Right at the mouth of the short canyon the LUL57 stopped and picked up an empty covered hopper at a rendering plant.
