The Last One: Amtrak train 572 rolls along the Pacific Ocean at Torrey Pines as it leaves the city limits of Del Mar and passes into the city of San Diego. On the head end of the train is F59PHI locomotive 458. 458 has the distinction of being the last Amtrak F59PHI to leave Amtrak service. As of March 1st, 2019, 458 is heading for Chicago to begin a new life hauling commuter trains, closing another chapter in the history of Southern California passenger rail.

Some of the best passenger locomotives that EMD ever made (aside from the F40PH). With all Amtrak F59s gone from the Surfline, the only place that they can be seen is with Caltrans (Amtrak California).
