The E50C is a variant of the E44, one of two built by GE in 1968 at the Erie plant, specifically for the MERR. It is a fully remote control unit, and apparently went over the road remotely, (USGS, 2014). Anecdotal research suggested that a crew member was in the cab over the road, but not in yard/tipple operations. The railroad ceased operations in 2002, and the two E50C units were scrapped in 2004. A David Baer original Kodachrome slide from my collection.
