| Around 50 photographers and videographers from 10 nations eagerly awaited this moment. The legendary "Red Devil" makes its first appearance in beautiful weather shortly after sunrise. The 4-8-4 "Northern" high-performance steam locomotive was extensively rebuilt between 1979 and 1981 in the Salt River workshops in Cape Town by the English engineer David Wardale according to the principles of the Argentine steam locomotive specialist Livio Dante Porta. The original locomotive was a class 25NC (25 non condenser) locomotive built by Henschel in Germany in 1953. At 1565 kW, the Red Devil is considered the most powerful narrow gauge steam locomotive in the world. Since last year, # 3450 is operational again for tourist or charter trains of the Ceres Rail Company.
