Water has been a big problem in South Dakota this summer. The RCP&E has had some problems fighting Mother Nature and her water because of it. Here along the PRC Sub at Van Meter the railroad experience as huge washout along the Bad River. From Fort Pierre to Philip (76 miles) the railroad and the river run hand and hand thru this desolate land, and sometimes too cozy. Saturated ground has lead to alot of erosion as seen with the river here. If you look back to the the 10th car in the train, you can see the big washout the railroad had to fill back in this summer. The MHURC slowly pokes along making the trek from Pierre to Philip for the next crew change. Van Meter....look around...there is nothing for miles and miles!
