The Conrail Stiles Street Yard is empty nowadays but you can usually find a single road engine tied down in there which is used to drill a local refinery and put together outbound train 67Z. NS usually has its own engine here doing the job but once in a while foreign power is used. This week there's a BNSF Warbonnet doing the job and it’s still looking great for being over 20 years old. The 18 track yard it sits in was once a very busy yard that served many customers along the Northeast Corridor, Linden Branch, the nearby Merck Pharmaceutical plant, and the massive 100 acre GM assembly plant across the street. The plant was demolished in 2008 and the property is now occupied by warehouses and a Walmart. With the GM plant gone and most of the old customers not receiving rail service anymore, the yard sits mostly vacant. The wires and catenary poles in the back are for Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor.
