As the BNSF 2019 California Division Christmas Train (O-SBDSBD3-16) departs the yard in San Bernardino, California, it meets Amtrak train 3, the westbound Southwest Chief at the San Bernardino station. The Chief is running a little late again today (just 2½ hours this day), but unlike two days earlier, it won’t hold up the Christmas Train because it isn’t picking up passengers (some additional volunteers) until Victorville and, later in Barstow, a train-load of excited kids! This is always an enjoyable trip, as the volunteers have nothing to do for 81 miles, including the trip up and over Cajon Pass. Some play cards, some chat with those they haven’t seen in a year – and some “foam.” (San Bernardino, California – December 16, 2019) Photographed on railroad property with permission and full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
