Remarks & Notes
Having recently switched the Cargill mill (seen in the background), SNEX Alco RS-36 #5012 is seen parked with a cut of cars in the afternoon sun. Low-hanging clouds leftover from lake-effect snow showers provide a dramatic backdrop. SNEX 5012--though not originally a D&H RS-36--wears a D&H-inspired paint scheme. Appropriately, similarly-painted D&H RS-36s once plied the adjacent D&H Washington Branch up until 1982 when the D&H sold the line (and its Greenwich & Johnsonville subsidiary) to the newly-formed Batten Kill Railroad. The SNEX 5012 is currently being stored by the Batten Kill for lessor Southern New England Railroad, with occasional use being a part of the storage agreement.
