On a cool, May afternoon along the Southern California coast...a rather odd Amtrak train makes its way down the ex-Southern Pacific coast line with a final destination of Los Angeles. Originating in Oakland, Amtrak P40 No. 822, wearing a special commemorative paint scheme as part of the 40th Anniversary of Amtrak, led a sleeper, Pacific Parlour Car and diner out of the Bay Area carrying a special charter group. Running ahead of Amtrak 11, the southbound Coast Starlight, this special operating as Amtrak 941 made good time on its southbound journey with its only formal station stop being San Luis Obispo. Seen here, the short train rips through Emma Wood State Beach on its approach to the coast community of Ventura.
