Two stock cars and a drop-bottom gondola from the 3-foot narrow gauge rolling stock roster of the Denver & Rio Grande Western rest in derelict condition on a yard track at Como, Colorado, on August 24, 2021. Reconstructed trackage and a nicely-restored depot and roundhouse in Como from the old Denver, South Park & Pacific (later, Colorado & Southern) are the work of the South Park Rail Society, a non-profit organization charged with the care and restoration of the 1881 Como Roundhouse and preservation of the area’s railway history. These cars may never see service again, but maybe their metal hardware and trucks can be salvaged for use in a future restoration by the society.
