Amid a grove of aspens. Rio Grande Southern Locomotives #20 and 455 and their freight train make their charge though the high country amid a grove of the iconic aspen trees which are so common in the cool climate of Colorado. This particular re-enactment was staged at Toltec Creek, on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in late August of 2021. This particular location was home to a D&RG Section House and water tank back in the day, and historic photos of this spot depict it as being relatively unforested. Today, there are virtually no remnants of the railroad structures here, and beautiful grove of aspens has taken its place. Perhaps a month later in the fall, this particular spot typically explodes in a sea of gold fall foliage, making it just an awesome photo spot on a sunny day.
