Tackling the Dallas Divide. Colorado's aspens are putting on their annual fall show as this Rio Grande Southern freight, with Locomotive #20 in control, re-creates the climb up the Dallas Divide, just a handful of miles west of Ridgway. This particular scene was staged on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, at a location called "Calico Cut" (MP 313.3), a few miles north of the New Mexico Border. Although the geography here looks remarkably like what is pictured in historic photos of RGS trains on the 4% at Dallas Divide, a few miles west of Ridgway, the RGS line was straight as an arrow, and that's certainly not the case here on the C&TS.
