Anniversary Edition Of Diesel Under Wire. The Amtrak Pennsylvanian (Train 42) was lead by AMTK 108 (P42DC, Phase VI) over Swatara Creek in Middletown, Pennsylvania on Thursday, January 20, 2022. This bridge, built in the 1830s, served the Pennsylvania Railroad and its predecessors, and later Penn Central and currently Amtrak. The Pennsylvanian traditionally changes from diesel engine to electric motor (or vice versa) in Philadelphia, Pennyslvania, where the train also changes directions in the station, making this one of the few places on Amtrak to see a diesel engine run under electric wire in revenue service outside of a station.
