Remarks & Notes
Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana was the Mexican railroad owned by Kansas City Southern and later renamed Kansas City Southern de México. But for a while, TFM’s locomotives were painted in KCS gray with full TFM lettering and logos, as seen on SD70MAC 1619 (built in October 1999) as it visits southern California on the Union Pacific. As the only American railroad to own a Mexican railroad, KCS was uniquely positioned to take advantage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), particularly as TFM/KCSM serves 11 of México’s 14 automobile assembly plants.
