Remarks & Notes
Lake Pontchartrain is a brackish estuary located in southeastern Louisiana. It covers an area of 630 square miles with an average depth of 12 to 14 feet. Its roughly 39x24 miles wide and length, and for some reason the railroad built right thru it. Today NS NO&NE Subdivision crosses this lake on a 5.5 miles long bridge. Here UP power lead this New Orleans to Birmingham freight. One wonders what the railroad does if they go into emergency on this bridge cause doesn't seem to be much room.
