Remarks & Notes
The Adirondack Is Back. Amtrak operated its last full Adirondack (Trains 68/69) between New York Penn Station in New York, New York and Central Station in Montreal Quebec in March of 2020 when the service was temporarily discontinued due to pandemic related restrictions. On, April 3, 2023, the northbound service was restored (Train 69), with that train returning as the first southbound (Train 68) on April 4, 2023. Long time Delaware & Hudson passenger service on this line ceased with Amtrak's inception in 1971, but was restored in cooperation with the D&H in 1974. Through various route changes over the years, it continued operating until 2020. With AMTK 108 (P42DC, 50th Anniversary/Phase VI) leading, the train makes the station stop at the vintage Westport, New York station. People from the community, including Westport Town Supervisor Ike Davis, have come out to see the return on service. A temporary platform is in use while the depot is under renovation, but the wheelchair lift is still ready for use as necessary.

The Adirondack follows both the Hudson and the Lake Champlain shoreline on its leisurely trip between New York and Montreal. When it started, it was pulled by beautiful ALCO PAs purchased by Delaware & Hudson second-hand from the Santa Fe.
