Los Angeles Metro Rail operates six rail lines (four light rail lines and two subway lines). While ridership had been pretty good, bumper-to-bumper rush-hour traffic still exists. Beginning in 2021, ridership has been rising once again. The recent completion of the downtown "regional connector" in June 2023 is helping, too, as now the lines have been reconfigured in a much more sensible fashion, and fewer transfers are required – no more double-transfers to three lines! Part of the "regional connector," is seen crossing the 101 Hollywood Freeway adjacent to downtown Los Angeles' Union Station, as an A Line (formerly the Blue Line) train, comprised of three Kinky Sharyo P3010 LRVs, approaches its stop on Union Station's platforms, shared with both Metrolink commuter trains and Amtrak. LA's iconic City Hall, for decades (1928 to 1964) the tallest building in the city (as the city would not permit any that were taller) can be seen in the distance. It is, clearly, no longer the tallest in town. (Los Angeles, California – August 16, 2023)
