Like in the "bygone years", the trains on the Gotthard mountain line follow each other on short distance. On the lowest level of the loops in the Biaschina, between Lavorgo and Giornico, we can see the train 31367 VENICE SIMPLON-ORIENT-EXPRESS (VSOE) from Paris to Venice with locomotives Re 420 # 161 and # 158 of the SBB in multiple control. Following on distance, the end of the train on the Pianotondo viaduct on the uppermost level, is train EC 10313 (EC 311 from Chiasso) from Zürich to Venice, with "Giruno" highspeed trains RABe 501 # 026 and # 010 of the SBB in multiple control. The VSOE, running via the Ceneri moutaiin line with a one hour stop in Rivera-Bironico, was overtaken by the EC 10313 after Giubiasco only, when the latter ran through the Ceneri Base Tunnel.
