Remarks & Notes
On November 29, 2023, the crew of the Uzwil workshop of the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke (DFB) carried out the final work to complete the 0-8-0 T fourcylinder compound HG 4/4 # 708 cogwheel steam locomotive in Realp. After lunch, the 800 Hp locomotive was pulled from the depot onto the turntable and presented in all its splendour. The locomotive will not be fired up for the first time until next spring. The HG 4/4 # 708, built by SLM Winterthur in 1930 for Indochina ("Compagnie Génerale de Colonies Paris" railway in Indochina from Song Pha to Da Lat) is a sister locomotive of the # 704 from 1923, which has been completed in 2018. Both locomotives were brought back from Vietnam more or less as scrap in 1990 as part of the "Back to Switzerland" campaign and were extensively refurbished in the Uzwil workshop, whereby around half of the parts had to be made from scratch. The beautiful snow covered mountains, mirrored in the coal bunker, are not real, but snow on the ground behind the locomotive, reflected. On the side of the locomotive is the coat of arms of the republic Vietnam (Vietnam Hòa Xa = VHX, 1955 to 1975), The designation then was VHX 40-308.
