Remarks & Notes
World's Fair Leader. As part of an equipment move, MTA NYCT 9308 (R-33S) was added to the 8-car R-32 Movie Train on Monday, January 29, 2024. This car is one of 40 that were ordered as single units to be added to the 400 R-36 'married pairs' to make 11-car trains on the Flushing Line for the 1964-1965 World's Fair. Painted robin's egg blue and white, they were a departure from the mostly darker paint colors that had been employed by the subway to that point. The 600 R-32s took this change a step further, the first full order (non-experimental) of stainless steel cars. There are several R-33S cars in the New York Transit Museum collection, 9306 is in its original paint scheme and was not rebuilt, 9307 and 9308 were both repainted in WF colors after a lengthy career in various paint schemes including the famous Gunn red 'redbird'. The train is seen approaching the Marcy Avenue Station coming off of the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn, New York. The skyline here is changing quickly as the new construction of the One Domino Square condominiums join Peter Luger's, the bridge, and the dome of the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Building.
