The Classic Insull Style. The sole survivor on an active railroad of the eleven Mediterranean Revival style stations constructed during Samuel Insull's ownership of the area interurbans can be found in Beverly Shores, Indiana. The classic design is inseparable from the Insull Era on the Chicago, South Shore, and South Bend Railroad, but credit should really go to Insull's architect, Arthur U. Gerber. Shortly after this photo was taken on February 20, 2020, the Northern Indiana Commuter District started its double-track construction project between Gary and Michigan City, Indiana, and installed handrails and other platform improvements. The neon sign was not added until after World War II, but fits perfectly, is if it was part of the original design. The station was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 19, 1989, and still serves NICD commuters on a daily basis.
