Remarks & Notes |
At walking pace, bumblebee-attired DC 4421 gingerly tip-toes across a spindly little matchstick bridge that seems out of place in the current millennium.
Each weekday during the milk season, a single loco takes empty containers down to the milk factory at Hokitika on the west coast of the South Island to be loaded with milk powder. This branch line was lucky to survive deregulation and dwindling traffic in the 1980s but the boom in dairy exports over the past decade seems to have given it a second chance. One doubts whether the Waimea Stream bridge will have such a rosy future.
