For one arriving bright eyed and bushy tailed, looking forward to a couple of days fanning the B&O Cumberland SD, this was not a welcome sight, especially for the first train of the day. B&O Brunswick derrick X46, leads at westbound wreck train at Great Cacapon, WV on November 18, 1977. During the early morning hours a westbound manifest had dumped 25 to 30 cars in the middle of Orleans Road interlocking. Things didn't so go well. A tank car was leaking and exploded later that evening, fortunately without loss of life or limb. The B&O was shut down for a couple of days, so we headed to Altoona for some Conrail action.
