Remarks & Notes
Eastbound Amtrak No. 98, the Newport News section of the "George Washington," blasted through Mineral, VA in Sept., 1973 with B&O GP7 No. 6697 and one coach. Once Amtrak took over passenger operations, Geeps became the norm on the Newport News section. Interestingly, even though C&O had several boiler equipped Geeps assigned to Clifton Forge, B&O Geeps handled the job almost exclusively. Normally, a dome coach would be assigned to the train, but on this date a regular coach was pinch hitting.
