Remarks & Notes
SCL Bicentennial U36B No. 1776 was leading southbound No. 109 out of Acca Yard in Richmond, VA on Oct. 23, 1973. No. 109 was a hot Potomac Yard-Waycross manifest that operated via the former ACL. Equally hot No. 227, was waiting to the right. No 227 operated between Potomac Yard and Hamlet, via the former SAL south of Petersburg. Normally, No. 227 left first, but on this date it followed No. 109. U36B No. 1776 was the first of many locomotives, on many railroads, to be painted in Bicentennial schemes.
