The D&RGW on parade. Denver & Rio Grande Western Consolidation #315 brings her period passenger consist into the Durango Yard during the 2010 Railfest "Parade of Trains". During a 30 minute period, spectators at Durango Station had the opportunity to photograph the arrival of no fewer than 6 trains, including a short President's Train, pulled by a K-28, two regular Silverton Trains, pulled by K-36s, a passenger extra, pulled by Eureka & Palisade #4, Rio Grande Southern Motor (Goose) #5, and the train you see here. Alas, the parade in 2011 will be just a bit shorter as the folks from the Durango Railroad Historical Society have elected not to operate the 315 during this calendar year.
The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
