"Fog Rolls In"
Fog has rolled in, inundating the area in and around Shenandoah Junction, WV. Off in the distance a muffled train horn can be heard. A low mumble begins to hum and roars louder and louder but is still somewhat muted by the heavy moisture in the air. A couple minutes pass, another blast of the horn. Finally roughly 50 yards away the road crossing gates activate and the horn blares into the night and the headlights seem at first dim but quickly light up the scene.
The Norfolk & Western CPL signals and a string of hoppers on the yard lead silhouette against the fog from the light of the fast approaching train. The engines round the corner from the left and quickly the scene is lit like from within a cloud and the train roars past. A few minutes later, the scene again reverts back and the stillness of the night takes back over. The fog overcomes the draft created by the train and keeps it grip tight to the ground.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
