Long Island Railroad G5s 4-6-0 #39 This is the boiler of a PRR built LIRR steam engine captured on a foggy morning in December, 2015. It's located on the deadline at the Strasburg Rail Road. It is owned by the Railroad Museum of Long Island and sits pending funds being raised for an eventual restoration to operation. Along with 4-6-0 #35, a sister to #39 is preserved across the street (PRR 5741) at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania and can be seen here.
An agreement was announced on March 15th, 2013 between he Railroad Museum of Long Island and the Strasburg Rail Road to restore and operate this ex-LIRR G5s Steam Locomotive. The terms of the contract provide for the Railroad Museum of Long Island to raise $900,000 and the Strasburg Rail Road will add $1,086,861.00 to the project and complete the restoration and then operate the locomotive on their property for a period of 48 years.
