One of the first locomotives to carry Burlington Northern Santa Fe markings was GP39E 2931. No other locomotives wore this exact scheme (BNSF 2911's scheme was similar, but not identical). Working in North Kansas City, Missouri, on March 3rd, 2016, this engine is still wearing its unique markings (even though the Burlington Northern Santa Fe markings are now a decade out of date, since the railroad is now officially BNSF Railway). BNSF 2931 was built by EMD as Union Pacific GP35 746. When UP retired this engine, it was rebuilt by EMD to what Burlington Northern called a GP39E and numbered BN 2931.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
