Before the Potomac Eagle

When the State of West Virginia purchased the B&O line from Green Spring to Morefield, It found a pair of army surplus MRS1’s to power the South Branch Valley Railroad. Here one of those Alco’s leads a train from Green Spring across the south branch of the Potomac River at Blue’s Beach. This bridge, and much of the line, was wiped out by massive floods in 1985. The line was rebuilt in 1989, which is when passenger excursions were added to the line’s portfolio.
