On November 17th, 2014 the final chapter of Union Switch & Signal searchlight signals on Tehachapi was closed when the last signals between Warren and Mojave, on the eastern slope, were retired in favor of new LED color light signals. 10 days earlier the eastern slope of Tehachapi still harkened back to a all but gone era of railroading, with the classic old US&S searchlights and the code-line poles & wires that supported them. In a scene lit by the timeless glow of the moon a westbound BNSF manifest, framed by the classic Southern Pacific signal bridge at MP 377, crawls up the eastern slope of the Tehachapis, where the desert meets the mountains.
